Moving from Anki

Import supported cards, fields, media, and review history. Review the compatibility report before adding the collection.

What’s different from Anki?

The reveal-and-rate study loop will feel familiar. Cortex brings collaboration, guided setup, and visual editing into the same app.

A new look

A clear Home view, light and dark themes, and a dedicated Study workspace give your daily work a new look.

Shared decks inside the app

Build decks together and receive reviewed updates. Your notes and study progress stay yours.

One app across your devices

Create and study on Mac, iPhone, and iPad, with a consistent experience and your progress in sync.

Easier to get started

New to flashcards? Guided practice, contextual tips, and study presets help you get started.

Built-in study tools

Keyboard shortcuts and Anki Remote support are built in. Set your remote actions once, and your mappings sync across devices—no add-on required.

Courses, modules, and lectures

Follow your course lecture by lecture, introducing questions as you go. Keep tags for organizing topics.

Cortex is in private beta on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. Shared deck downloads, updates, and contributions to other people’s decks require Plus. Cortex and Anki do not automatically sync cards or reviews with each other.

Check what transfers

What transfers

Your collectionIn Cortex
Card typesSupported content converts into native basic, cloze, and image occlusion cards.
Fields & rich textMap supported fields to card content, personal notes, shared deck fields, or ignore. Review unsupported or lossy conversions.
Decks & tagsSelect one top-level Anki deck per import. Its descendant deck paths become hierarchical Cortex tags.
Study progressBring supported schedules and review history. Progress-only import can match existing questions in an authorized shared deck without changing its content.
Images & audioSupported referenced media carries over. Missing or unsupported media is reported so you can repair affected cards.
Custom templatesCortex does not execute Anki CSS, JavaScript, or a general template runtime. Custom add-on behavior is not guaranteed to transfer.

Personal Anki content import requires Cortex Plus and an enabled beta build. Large collections take time to process; import and sync performance continue to improve during early access. Existing imported content remains usable if you later leave Plus.
